Staff had the opportunity to witness the world's largest steam locomotive, the Union Pacific (U.P.) 4014 Big Boy, which made a stop at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola. The U.P. 4014 Big Boy is a remarkable steam locomotive from World War II. Of the original 25 Big Boy locomotives built to transport freight during the war, the U.P. 4014 is the only one still in operation (restored in 2019). Following its stop in Portola, the 4014 continues its westward summer tour, which includes visits to 14 states, five of which are part of this year's "Westward Bound" tour.
