Dear Neighbor‚
I hope you’re having a great summer. The Legislature has been out for recess and will reconvene on August 14th. I’ve enjoyed being out in the district attending various events‚ and hearing from community partners. During our final week of session‚ it was my privilege to honor a constituent from the district‚ retired Lieutenant Commander Lou Conter‚ for his 28 years of courageous service in the United States Navy.
At the age of 101‚ he now holds distinction as the only living service member of the 335 officers‚ sailors‚ and marines who survived the 1941 attack on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor‚ Hawaii.
I take immense pleasure in recognizing retired Lieutenant Commander Lou Conter for his dedication to duty and country.
On a legislative note‚ my bill, SB 787‚ was signed into law. The measure will help bolster the economy for local businesses in Nevada County. Speaking of businesses‚ I’m pleased to share that a number of bad bills that would harm public safety and our business climate have been stopped and thankfully will not be moving forward this legislative year.
- AB 93-Severly hinders law enforcement’s ability to conduct search warrants
- SB 584-Adds a significant new tax on Airbnb & other short-term rentals
- AB 742-Bans law enforcement from using K-9 dogs
- AB 1563-Makes it exceedingly difficult to obtain groundwater well permits
In closing‚ I want to make sure you are aware of our new District Office in Chico. I’m honored to be serving constituents in Butte County! To commemorate this‚ we will be having a grand opening at our Chico District Office on August 11th from 9 AM to 12 PM. I’ve included more details about the special event below in the newsletter. California is facing a shortage of healthcare workers. New free online and in-person trainings from the California Department of Aging provide an opportunity for healthcare providers to enrich their skillsets and/or further their careers. Healthcare providers‚ from paid direct care workers to unpaid family and friend caregivers‚ are encouraged to apply.
Attention: Military Spouses
Did you know that military spouses (of those on active duty) are eligible for expedited licenses and fees waived by the California Department of Consumer Affairs? This applies to registered nurses‚ dental assistants and more! Email military@dca.ca.gov for more information or visit their website.
Funding Opportunity, Regional Resilience Grant Program
Funding will be distributed in two rounds to applicants participating in climate resiliency projects particularly in vulnerable communities. Applications must be submitted by August 29th.

Tahoe National Forest Fee Proposal
The U.S. Forest Service is proposing to change recreation fees at various locations across the Tahoe National Forest. Public comments can be made until September 15‚ 2023. In the District |
Team Dahle received a tour of the Feather River Watershed hosted by PlumasCorp. With partners such as the Sierra Nevada Conservancy they have pioneered a process to restore meadows. Their unique process has been successful and the completed sites now act as a natural fire break and sequester carbon. Last legislative session‚ I championed legislation‚ that was signed into law, to help support expanding these efforts. As a longtime advocate of forest and watershed improvement projects‚ I felt it was necessary to run legislation expand the boundaries of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) to include all of Modoc and Siskiyou Counties. Unfortunately‚ this critical legislation was held by the majority party in committee.
Our team attended a Tehama County groundwater commission meeting. The informative meeting highlighted well monitoring and data collection in the region.
It was an exciting day in Chico! The largest capital improvement project in the city’s history was completed. Cohasset Road is a major roadway in the city of Chico. This is a big step in restarting commercial airline travel to the Chico Regional Airport‚ which I’m proud to support. My staff‚ Congressman LaMalfa‚ Braden Pisani of Assemblyman Gallagher’s Office‚ and Mayor Andrew Coolidge were present to commemorate the special day.
Team Dahle attended a Shasta Environmental Alliance field day tour of the Battle Creek area near Anderson. BLM is the lead agency and will be removing the invasive species and restoring the natural riparian habitat.
My staff was very proud to help celebrate the groundbreaking for Seneca Healthcare District’s brand-new hospital in the town of Chester‚ in Plumas County.
The Korean War Veterans Association‚ Northern California #1‚ selected Shasta County’s Kim Chamberlain to receive the Shasta County Board of Supervisors resolution honoring Korean War Veterans Armistice Day on July 27. Chamberlain has spent many years advocating for recognition of veterans of the “Forgotten War.”
Team Dahle took a tour of Dignity Connected Living in Redding‚ which provides a variety of senior services in Shasta and neighboring counties‚ to learn about their work to expand the Shasta County Food Bank. Thanks to Executive Director Joe Ayer for the tour!
Brothers from the Abbey of Our Lady of New Clairvaux in Vina‚ in Tehama County‚ lead a procession to begin the annual Blessing of the Grapes‚ a community event that includes tours of its winery and its church built largely of stones from a dismantled chapter house in Spain.
Empire Recovery Center in Redding held a retirement celebration to honor Marjeanne Stone‚ its executive director‚ who was the Senate District 1 Woman of the Year for 2023. I deeply appreciate Marjeanne’s work helping her neighbors overcome addiction.
Co-founder Don Ajamian from Emergent speaks at an open house in Redding celebrating the completion of the first home using the company’s innovative system to build using 3D-printed concrete walls.
