Dear Neighbor,
I hope this email finds you well. I can hardly believe it’s already August, it seems like the days are flying by all too quickly. We’ve experienced some significantly large wildfires across the District recently, and I want to remind you to please remain vigilant. Having to be evacuated can be extremely stressful, and come suddenly. It’s important to be prepared ahead of time. CAL FIRE offers information and even a checklist here so you don’t forget even the most essential items during a crisis. Additionally, constituents may face disruptions such as missed wages, delayed mail, and unmet deadlines due to an evacuation order from a wildfire. Upon returning to their communities, individuals might need help resolving issues caused by their evacuation. If you encounter difficulties with state agencies like EDD, DMV or the Franchise Tax Board, our office is here to assist. For example, EDD can waive the one-week waiting period for lost wages to help you maintain your livelihood.
On a legislative note, I’m extremely proud to share the Governor signed my bill, Senate Bill 1009. The law allows the Department of Fish and Wildlife to lease a property to the Mt. Shasta Museum Association for the next 25 years, allowing the museum to continue operating and providing educational and cultural resources to the community.
In closing, I know the high temperatures can be insufferable, and many are looking to beat the heat and enjoy California’s diverse waterways. Did you know that California’s beautiful 1st Senate District contains all or portions of 15 counties? Click the links to find boating facilities to enjoy in your county or a neighboring one. Alpine, Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou, Shasta, and Tehama.
The California Department of Water Resources provides helpful information regarding water safety.
Before you head outdoors, below are few water safety tips:
- Wear your life jacket.
- Obey all hazard signs.
- Swim in safe or designated areas only.
- Beware of drop-offs into deep water.
- Watch for hidden debris, rapid currents, and slippery rocks.
- Look before you leap or dive.
Throughout July, the Legislature has been in recess, so my family and I took the opportunity to spend a few days away together. I hope you were able to do the same this summer.
It’s an honor to serve as your State Senator.
Enjoy the great outdoors,
Senator Brian Dahle

The Feather River Forest Health Tour hosted by the Butte County Fire Safe Council was informative by showcasing projects funded by Forest Health Grants from CAL FIRE. Utilizing CAL FIRE’s guidelines, through the use of prescribed burns and restoration, the projects aim to maintain forest health.
Holbrook’s Clearance Center had a grand re-opening event at their new location at 230 W East Avenue in Chico. The Center has been serving the Chico community and surrounding areas for 35 years. I wish them great success at their new location.

The Women Veterans Recognition Day at the Newton Bracewell Chico Funeral Home was remarkable. The event was hosted by Daughters of the American Revolution, VFW, and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. This event commemorated the Women’s Armed Forces Integration Act, signed on June 12, 1948, by President Truman, which allowed women to serve in the regular armed forces for the first time in U.S. history.
