Update from Senator Dahle - 09.13.2023

Dear Neighbor‚

This is the last week of session‚ and hundreds of bills are still moving through the legislative process. I will be giving an update on some of these bills in my next newsletter‚ along with bills I will be requesting the Governor to sign or veto. I remain focused on measures to fix California and protect the paychecks and lives of families.

Californians have experienced some of the worst fires in the state’s history and rebuilding can often be a lengthy and arduous process‚ not to mention costly. Earlier this year‚ I introduced SB 542 to help alleviate excessive taxation on payments to those victims. Ultimately‚ the bill’s language was incorporated into the 2023-2024 budget bill SB 131 that was signed by the governor. This excludes PG&E settlement payments awarded to victims of the 2020 Zogg Fire from gross income‚ meaning those payments would not be subject to income taxes.

I continue to push for reform when it comes to the homeowners’ insurance crisis plaguing California. I sent a letter to Insurance Commissioner Lara demanding action to help Californians. The volume of homeowners being dropped is inexcusable‚ and this can be fixed. We must act now.

Among other issues‚ I’m working across the aisle to secure audits of various failing programs‚ including an audit of California’s spending on the homeless crisis‚ and I’ve joined my Republican colleagues by leading the fight against a proposal that would raise energy costs for Californians. My commitment to you is that I will continue to work on fixing the significant issues affecting our state.

It’s an honor to serve you‚

Senator Brian Dahle

At the Capitol

Peach Giveaway

We were feeling peachy at the Capitol thanks to a local farm from California’s 1st Senate District. Historic Hawes Farms graciously provided hundreds of peaches to give to legislative members and staff to enjoy! California grows over 400 commodities‚ and is the largest producer of peaches.

Business Owners

Several business owners from the district came to Sacramento to push back on efforts that would make doing business in California even more difficult. I appreciate them taking the time and staying engaged on critical policies.

In the District

Open House Butte

I mentioned the Chico District Office Open House in my previous newsletter. I’m pleased to share it was a huge success! I was amazed by the turnout‚ and received a genuine and warm welcome from community members and stakeholders. After the Open House‚ I had meetings in the district with business and Ag leaders. I had the privilege of touring Transfer Flow‚ and was impressed with their operations and economic impact through job creation.

Movement Mortgage

Congratulations to Movement Mortgage on their recent success! Team Dahle was delighted to be in attendance for their ribbon cutting. It’s always great to see businesses thriving in the District.

Forestry Tour

Team Dahle recently attended the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s West Shore Tahoe Field Tour. The day kicked off at the Tahoe City Transit Center with an informative update from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and Placer County District 5 Supervisor Cindy Gustafson. Participants then viewed the old burn scar where the Washoe Fire had taken place. This was followed by a tour of Sugar Pine State Park where agencies do prescribed burns of the underbrush to reduce fuel as well as clear the way for natural species to grow back. The day concluded with the Fire Season Community Meeting. Community friends heard from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, Office of Emergency Services‚ CAL FIRE‚ and Forest Service on a variety of emergency preparedness topics. Click here for more information on El Dorado County’s emergency alert system.

Happy Camp Complex

Team Dahle attended an informative briefing in Siskiyou County regarding the Happy Camp Complex. Click here for the Siskiyou County Office of Emergency Services. As a friendly reminder‚ Zone Haven is now Genasys‚ Inc.

Redding MLK Event

My staff joined a moving event in Redding to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

Hmong Cultural Center

My District Director‚ Bruce Ross‚ was proud to spend time with representatives of the Hmong Cultural Center of Butte County to learn about their work ensuring immigrant communities have access to mental health care that meets their needs.

Team Dahle

Team Dahle had the pleasure in taking part in California’s Cooperative Rice Research Foundation’s Rice Field Day! It is an annual event to highlight research in rice breeding and genetics‚ agronomy‚ pathology‚ and weed science. My staff was joined by Elizabeth Zepeda, executive assistant to Supervisor Durfee‚ and Teri Dubose district representative for Congressman LaMalfa.
