Wildfire Update from Senator Brian Dahle

Friends and neighbors,

I hope you had a great Independence Day weekend, but wanted to give you a quick update regarding the fires burning in Shasta and Siskiyou Counties. (This update is from the morning report—and fire conditions change quickly, so confirm the latest with your local authorities).

The fires were somewhat less chaotic and threatening over the weekend and major progress was made on containment. Thank you firefighters!

The Salt Fire, near Lakehead, is up to 11,700 acres with 20 percent containment. The Sheriff’s Office released over the weekend that 27 residences have been destroyed, along with various outbuildings.

The US Forest Service reported the fire is currently burning to the north and east, into the Hirz Fire perimeter from 2018.

The Lave Fire is up to 25,000 acres, but is 70 percent contained. The Sheriff’s Office lifted the evacuation orders for Lake Shastina and other residential areas, but Highway 97 remains closed. Active burning is up on the shoulder of Mt. Shasta.

The Tennant Fire is up to 10,500 acres with 51 percent containment, and evacuation orders remain in effect.

Losing a home, property, crops, livestock or pets is always devastating. I send my sincere thoughts to all who have been impacted. We are in this together.

Be safe!
