Dear Neighbors,

I hope you are having a wonderful and healthy 2022! It has been a busy start to the year, and I want to take a moment to share what is happening in Sacramento. The Legislature has wasted no time in pushing bills forward in the new year, some of them aren't so good for constituents. One such bill, AB 1400, would take away Medicare from seniors, make private insurance illegal, and force Californians to be on government-run health care. Yikes! This shows how out of touch progressives are in California. Over 94% of Californians are covered. Thankfully, this bill failed in Assembly last week.

I wanted to share with you about some of Team Dahle’s successes in 2021.

• 3,639 constituents cases were worked on and closed
• 19 bills introduced, four signed into law and four still moving forward
• 32 bills co-authored
• 5,456,656 emails sent out to constituents

Helping our Neighbors

One of my constituents reached out regarding an issue she was having with Medi-Cal RX. She takes care of her disabled son, who is reliant on medication on a daily basis. At some point Medi-Cal RX decided her son would be prescribed an off brand version of his medication. This happened despite the fact that her son's doctor stated that he has adverse side effects from the off brand version.

My staff patiently listened and swiftly reached out to California Department of Health Care Services regarding the matter. I am pleased to share that within a matter of days the issue was resolved and the child can now get the correct medicine. This is just one small way that we can assist our constituents with state-related issues. My offices are ready to step in where we can! Please give us a call if you think we can help.

In the District

My staff had the honor of presenting a resolution to Janet Levi. Janet has been a member of the El Dorado Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for forty-one years. She is an alumnus of UC Berkeley. Janet has also organized food drives to keep our local veterans fed, and food pantries for homeless schoolchildren to ensure that they have food over weekends.

Rising Crime

Public safety continues to be an issue in California. We have all seen the harrowing images of looters tormenting the Union Pacific railway in L.A. This is why I'm proud to be a co-author on AB 1599. This bill will work towards repealing Prop 47. Prop 47 lowered specific non-violent property and drug crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, raising the threshold to $950 for shoplifting, theft, etc. Our businesses in California continue to suffer from the effects of closure and staffing shortages, and are now having to pay for increased security. This is unfair! When will legislators realize that soft-on-crime policies do not work? The solution is not to throw additional money towards programs, but rather to vote for laws that actually work to protect Californians.

County Highlight

*Trivia Answer: Modoc County!
The 1st Senate District is made up of 11 counties (all of 9 counties, and 2 partial). In this edition, we explore the unique natural features of Modoc County.

Modoc County is located in the northeastern corner of California and has a population of 8,900. It's a hidden gem with an abundance of recreational opportunities. The Modoc National Forest, which covers more than half of the county, and the Warner Mountains provide stunning backdrops for camping, hiking, fishing, and water sports. An ideal habitat for diverse wildlife, Modoc County is home to bighorn sheep, bald eagles, peregrine falcons, goshawks, golden eagles, Rocky Mountain mule deer and elk, wild horses, burros and pronghorn antelope. Surprisingly, tourism isn't a major part of the Modoc County economy, but visitors will find that local towns including Surprise Valley and Alturas offer enjoyable events such as BBQs, rodeos, parades, art shows, and even cattle drives.

In closing, we have a big year ahead in 2022! I look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead. Thank you for your support!
