SB 1167 would ban restaurants or food facilities (including coffee shops) that have more than 20 locations in the US from providing a consumer with a disposable cup or mug when they intend to consume that beverage on the premises, and allows local governments to impose an infraction that is punishable by a fine.
Senator Dahle noted that SB 54 is already requiring all single use cups to be recyclable or compostable by 2032, and this bill seems redundant. Additionally, minimum wage mandates and onerous regulations have forced many restaurants to close their doors or reduce their presence across the state.
