Senator Brian Dahle (R-Bieber) requested the California State Senate Adjourn in the Memory of Lieutenant Commander Lou Conter, a highly decorated veteran who bravely served his country throughout his life. He left a legacy of courage and service to his country, and was highly regarded as a true American hero.
“I had the privilege of recognizing Lieutenant Commander Conter in Sacramento last year for his many years of courageous service in the United States Navy. It was truly a highlight of my career to honor someone who gave so much for my freedoms and our nation. His sacrifice and commitment to duty will always be remembered as a shining example of true heroism. May we live by Conter's life mantra: ‘Don't panic,’” stated Dahle.
Conter's remarkable service to the country began as a young sailor during one of the darkest periods in American history when he endured the attack on Pearl Harbor, emerging as one of the few survivors from the USS Arizona. His courage and resilience in the face of adversity during this attack were nothing short of inspirational.
Conter continued serving the country by becoming a naval pilot. He flew hundreds of combat missions in World War II and the Korean War.

Conter was a resident of Grass Valley, in California's 1st Senate District. A service honoring him will be held on April 23 in Nevada County.
