Historic Renovation Promotes Rural Innovation

Team Dahle joined an amazing celebration to mark the grand opening of the remodeled Carnegie Library

This week‚ Team Dahle joined an amazing celebration to mark the grand opening of the remodeled Carnegie Library building in historic downtown Yreka. It will serve as the headquarters for Siskiyou Economic Development‚ as well as a rural business innovation hub for the North State region.

Small businesses are the very life of our rural communities‚ and helping them start‚ thrive and grow is one of the critical missions of Siskiyou Economic Development‚ which puts a particular focus on assisting agriculture‑related enterprises.

The events also included a frank discussion among local business leaders and top state officials from the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency and the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development — about workforce needs‚ access to capital‚ and how the alphabet soup of state programs designed to help businesses can work better for rural areas.

This project is the fruit of many years of work by Siskiyou Economic Development‚ with support from state and federal governments. I am grateful for their work to take a piece of history and orient toward a brighter future — and for putting Yreka on the map.

Congratulations to Congressman Gallagher

Senator Dahle attend a community swear-in at the State Theatre in Oroville for former Assembly colleague James Gallagher

It was inspiring this week to attend a community swearing‑in ceremony at the State Theatre in Oroville for my former Assembly colleague – and now U.S. representative – James Gallagher‚ who was elected earlier this month to finish the term of our late Congressman Doug LaMalfa. I look forward to working with him in his new role on behalf of the region.

The change in congressional representation and the vacancy in the Assembly seat can be disruptive. Some familiar long‑time staff might be in new roles. Some email addresses might no longer work. I want to remind residents – especially in the Sacramento Valley‚ which is seeing the greatest change – that my office is here for any constituents who need help working with a state agency‚ are seeking support for grant applications‚ or want to weigh in on pending legislation. We will do all we can to keep important work moving forward through these transitions.

If you need to contact one of my offices‚ addresses and phone numbers are here. Or send me an email.

Change of Command at Beale Air Force Base

the change‑of‑command ceremony at Beale Air Force Base

It was an honor for Team Dahle to attend the change‑of‑command ceremony at Beale Air Force Base this week as Col. Keagan McLeese relinquished command of the 9th Reconnaissance Wing to Col. Charles Cameron.

Lt. General Thomas Hensley‚ commander of the Sixteenth Air Force‚ presided.

The passing of the guidon is a longstanding military tradition symbolizing the formal transfer of authority from one commander to another.

The 9th Reconnaissance Wing‚ at Beale‚ employs approximately 7‚000 military‚ civilian‚ and contractor personnel‚ and is home to the entire Air Force high‑altitude reconnaissance fleet of U‑2 Dragon Lady aircraft. The 9th Reconnaissance Wing’s four groups and four overseas operating locations execute missions worldwide‚ and it is a true honor to call them my constituents here in California.

Global Educators Learn about U.S. Democracy

Senator Dahle's staff met with educators from countries all over the world

This week‚ staff from my Capitol office met with 20 educators from countries all over the world as CSU Chico hosts the Study of the United States Institutes for Global Secondary Leaders. This five‑week program‚ funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State‚ aims to deepen the knowledge of U.S. society‚ education‚ culture‚ values‚ people and institutions.

These educators came from China‚ Morocco‚ Rwanda‚ Ukraine‚ Lebanon‚ the Czech Republic‚ Costa Rica‚ Mongolia‚ Moldova‚ Vanuatu‚ Colombia‚ Tajikistan‚ Bosnia and Herzegovina‚ Brazil‚ Lesotho‚ Nepal‚ Bahrain‚ Kazakhstan‚ South Africa‚ and Azerbaijan.

We discussed how bills move along the legislative process‚ how our state budget is decided and who has the power over that process. Visitors also inquired about the California education system and had poignant questions relating to differences in how charter schools are managed and funded‚ how to bridge the gap in performance between schools and how to fill in financial shortfalls.

These educators look to go back to their countries armed with knowledge so they can effect change at a structural level to benefit the places they call home. It was an honor that these educators wanted to speak with us‚ and I hope they go home ready to make positive reform.

Celebrate America’s Birthday with California History

Celebrating America's 250th Birthday

This summer we are celebrating America’s 250th birthday – formally the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

While California was a late arrival to the party‚ the state is also celebrating its own heritage this summer‚ offering “Historian Passports” to visit the state historic parks at no charge.

In the 1st Senate District‚ these sites include the beautiful Empire Mine State Historic Park (pictured above) as well as Shasta State Historic Park‚ Malakoff Diggins and the Ide Adobe. Sites elsewhere in the state include several of the historic missions‚ Gold Rush sites‚ museums and more. These are beautiful places to visit while learning the story of California.

The free passports are good through the end of the year‚ but are only available from now until July 6. Learn more and download yours through the State Parks website.
