The bill will increase costs to consumers, and the filters can even cause an increase in energy and water consumption. Additionally, it is unclear what the consumer is supposed to do with the microplastic in the filter. Should they wash it out in the sink which would have the microplastics enter the wastewater system, or should they throw it in the garbage so the microplastics are now sent to the landfill where they may leach into groundwater or be blown away on the breeze?
